Have you done any of these things? What other strange things have you done in your life that I can make a NHIE post about later?
Aw yiss!!! Let's do this!!!
ReplyDelete1. Shot a gun
Yes. I have mixed feeling about firearms, but I think it is important to know how to handle them just in case you ever need to. With that said, I haven't done it in so long that I would benefit from a refresher.
2. Joined the mile high club
No but I am not opposed! I'll leave an update when/if it happens.
3. Eaten a rambutan
No
4. Driven a tractor
No
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation
I don't think so?
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose)
Yes, but the boring way. It was a box of chocolate covered crickets.
7. Read a book in another language
No, but I saw a silent movie in another language. It was I Kiss Your Hand, Madame, a 1929 German silent movie with Marlene Dietrich, and it was back when I was studying German and in my prime with it. This was before phones, so I had to pause every title card and really take my time and then type anything that I didn't understand into Google. I did better with it than I thought I would and really enjoyed the movie.
8. Driven a car in another country
O Canada!
9. Driven a motorcycle.
Nope
10. Stayed up past dawn
Nope
11. Gone commando
Yes
12. Wet my pants
Not since I was a little 'un
13. Had an Irish car bomb
No but I want to
14. Smoked a hookah
No
15. Heard a call to prayer
No
16. Stepped on a snake
Not yet
You have never wet your pants!? Oh man, while traveling often the bus doesn't have a bathroom and in places like Africa, you may go for hours and hours without stopping, so by the time you stop, once your body is like, oh there's the toilet, it is hard to keep it in! So, basically what you are telling me is that when I come to visit you, we will go to a bar with hookah, get Irish car bombs and stay up all night! Woohoo! GNO!
DeleteHey, if you took away my access to a bathroom for long enough, of course I would pee my pants. It's just never happened in my adult life. As you might remember, I drove all the way to Buffalo without stopping, but that was only three hours.
DeleteDon't worry; it will happen soon enough! However, you are the only person who has responded no to that question.
Delete1. Shot a gun - yes
ReplyDelete2. Joined the mile high club - no, too squishy
3. Eaten a rambutan - no
4. Driven a tractor - yes
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation - no clue, maybe?
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose) - not on purpose, definitely lots accidentally while biking
7. Read a book in another language - I have read a children's book in French
8. Driven a car in another country - yes, the US
9. Driven a motorcycle. - no
10. Stayed up past dawn - yes, a couple times
11. Gone commando - yes, but not while cycling
12. Wet my pants - I mean, definitely. Who hasn't?
13. Had an Irish car bomb - I forget what these are, are they Guinness with whiskey? I don't think I have
14. Smoked a hookah - yes, in Egypt
15. Heard a call to prayer - yes, also in Egypt
16. Stepped on a snake - nooooo
Too squishy? I am not even going to ask! I think your mile high club does different things than my mile high club. :) Also, I think I need to hear the story of you staying up past dawn a couple of times, and also were you commando on these nights or was that separate? Did you like the hookah? I like the hookah. I think I could be a smoker if it was not bad for you and very stinky, as I do like the act of sitting and smoking and chilling. I keep trying to be a cigar smoker, until I realize they give me the worst taste in my mouth later, but I like the idea of it!
DeleteAlso homework for you -- if you ever see a rambutan (most likely in an Asian market or Chinatown) get a dozen of them and give them a try; you won't regret it!
I'm pretty vanilla.
ReplyDeleteI've:
1) Shot a gun
11) Gone commando
12) Wet my pants (I agree with Nicole - has anyone never done this?!)
And that's...it. You are much cooler than I am ;)
Well Birchie claims that she has not wet her pants as an adult! You think she is fibbing? Did you hear what Kelly Clarkson said about peeing in the shower? It cracked me up!
DeleteI am not that cool. I would like to see your list of strange things that you HAVE done and we will see if I can keep up. Also, as a Mom (and a person in general), you deal with emotional stuff very well, whereas my stuff is more tangible.
1. Shot a gun--I took Marksmanship in college; I certified in 2 positions, standing and sitting. This was with a .22 rifle.
ReplyDelete4. Driven a tractor--If a riding mower counts LOL!
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation--Pretty close in the Rocky Mountains
7. Read a book in another language --Just a children's book en francais
8. Driven a car in another country--Only Canada
9. Driven a motorcycle--Briefly, and with a boyfriend steering from behind me.
10. Stayed up past dawn--On a very, very drunken Independence Day
11. Gone commando--who hasn't?
12. Wet my pants--I've had two huge children. Please.
16. Stepped on a snake--The very thought of it, even now, decades later, makes me tear up. I am deathly afraid of snakes.
Marksmanship! Fascinating! I think the first gun I shot was also a .22. My Dad took us out to shoot cans and I really enjoyed it. Since then I have shot a few others, but all rifles, never a handgun.
DeleteWho hasn't gone commando? I think it depends! I never really did until I started running and I once did a poll where the question was whether or not you wear underwear and a lot of people didn't, so I tried it and I did not really enjoy it. Of course when you cycle you will get chafing if you wear underwear with the bike shorts, so then I went back to it and realized it is not as bad as I thought. But, I am now wondering what you Ohio people are doing....are you all running around buck naked all the time? :)
In Ohio that would be Buckeye Naked. LOL And no--Ohioans are certainly NOT running around naked all the time. Not in our weather.
DeleteBuckeye Naked! We have a comedian on our hands, ladies and gentlemen! Thanks Nance; that made me laugh!
DeleteIt’s easier for me to say what I have done than what I haven’t done! I have Driven a car in a foreign country (Australia and NZ), I’m sure I’ve gone commando, but I can’t remember particular time, and I have peed my pants (Poor timing of laughing hysterically while having a full bladder).
ReplyDeleteI never would’ve guessed you were in the Milehigh club!
You said PEE! I purposefully left out the word pee because of you and then you said pee! Haha! And yes, laughing, sneezing, just holding it too long for whatever reason...there have been many times for me. As for the MHC, it is not my style at all, but I had one too many free glasses of wine on an international flight and off we went. It was not fun, it was cramped, and of course, we came out and there were people in line so I was fully embarrassed. No more wine on flights for me!
DeleteI know! Since wetting your pants is sort of a crass experience, I threw in a crass word!! The MHC story is too funny - and so out of character for you which makes it extra funny!!
Delete1. Shot a gun -Yes, but never an automatic.
ReplyDelete2. Joined the mile high club -No, I tend to pass out on airplanes so...
3. Eaten a rambutan -Yes
4. Driven a tractor -Yes
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation -Yes!
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose) -Yes, and does larvae count
7. Read a book in another language -Yup!
8. Driven a car in another country -Yes, Thailand and Croatia
9. Driven a motorcycle. -Yes, I had a couple when I was younger
10. Stayed up past dawn -To many times to count.
11. Gone commando -Sure, but not very comfortable
12. Wet my pants -Who hasn't
13. Had an Irish car bomb -Yes!
14. Smoked a hookah -Yup!
15. Heard a call to prayer -No, I would like to though
16. Stepped on a snake -Near one a couple of times but never on one
Nice! Long time listener first time caller! I also have not shot an automatic, mostly shotguns, or I think only shotguns. I have held an automatic, or is that gun a semiautomatic? I don't even know! #2 LOL, as long as you pass out after not before I do not see the problem here. #3 Where did you go? Why don't I know this? #6 larvae counts, I mean, it will eventually be a bug right? Was that in Thailand? #7 of course you have. #9 bad to the bone, eh? #10 child of the 80s. #12, I know. I think Birchie is lying. Thanks for commenting!
DeleteYes, first time caller and long time listener! I did eat larvae in Thailand and also Oakland! Ale Industries used to sell fried larvae as a snack! As for Rambutan, Thailand, I think.
DeleteAwe, I miss Ale Industries! I never tried the larvae in Thailand, so I guess I need to go back!
Delete1. Shot a gun- Yes, I did skeet shooting as part of a groomsmen activity for my friend’s wedding in NC when I was in my mid thirties. Definitely a lot harder than I expected, but it was a fun and unique experience even though I didn’t hit anything!
ReplyDelete2. Joined the mile high club - No, this made me blush though you know I blush easily
3. Eaten a rambutan Yes, I have eaten tons given my wife is originally from Thailand. Very tasty.
4. Driven a tractor- Nope
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation No. I am intrigued. Where exactly did you go?
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose)No
7. Read a book in another language No
8. Driven a car in another country Yes in Canada
9. Driven a motorcycle. No, though having been in Thailand and Vietnam, I can understand why you would say it was scary
10. Stayed up past dawn - Yes
11. Gone commando No
12. Wet my pants No, not as an adult though there were some close calls when alcohol was involved
13. Had an Irish car bomb - Maybe. It’s possible I had in my single days but didn’t know what it was called or didn’t remember
14. Smoked a hookah -Yes
15. Heard a call to prayer-No
16. Stepped on a snake No
I have never been skeet shooting, but I hiked through a field in....Slovenia(?) where they were doing it and it scared the living bejeezus out of me; I kept hoping that they did not miss!
DeleteFor the 5,000 meters, I have actually been to a few places! In Bolivia on the salt flats of Uyuni you are higher than 5,000, and then I went to Nepal and hiked in the Himalayas and that was also over 5,000. I feel like I am forgetting one now, but those are the ones that are coming to mind right now.
Didn't you learn Mandarin? You never had to read anything with that? I think that would be very hard if you did!
Also, you have NEVER gone commando or peed your pants!? I think you are lying OR you need to live a little! :)
Your hiking in Himalayas in Nepal at that elevation sounds like you were possibly at base camp for Mount Everest? Did you attempt that mountain?
DeleteI did read Chinese characters when I studied Mandarin but it was definitely not considered reading a book, especially since it took me so long to translate each character!
As for commando/peed, I definitely need to live a little, nay, A LOT!
1. Shot a gun - Yes, my dad gave me lessons. I wasn't good at it.
ReplyDelete2. Joined the mile high club - No. Too many germs.
3. Eaten a rambutan - No.
4. Driven a tractor - yes, a lot!
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation - I don't think so?
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose) - No way!!
7. Read a book in another language - Yes, many in French
8. Driven a car in another country - No
9. Driven a motorcycle. - No
10. Stayed up past dawn - Yes, exhausting.
11. Gone commando - Yes
12. Wet my pants - Yes, a little bit.
13. Had an Irish car bomb - No
14. Smoked a hookah No, but once I ordered a portable electric burner on Amazon, and they recommended that I might also like to order a hookah pipe! That made me laugh until I peed my pants.
15. Heard a call to prayer - No
16. Stepped on a snake - No
I loved your line about the hookah and you peeing your pants. That is an interesting combo! I don't think I get the connection. I have definitely peed my pants from laughing too hard! When I was in France, I got a book from the library in French and then I only read a few pages, so I am definitely not counting that, but probably should try again! If it is a little too hard, it is kind of a lot of work looking up words all the time! I know that is part of the process so I need to get better!
DeleteYou're in the mile high club! That's not something I would have expected. Planes are so uncomfortable that I can't imagine getting in the mood for that, lolol.
ReplyDeleteWhat I've done:
1. Shot a gun - Well, it was a fake gun? For the first two years of high school, I was in a criminal justice magnet program and in one of our classes, we had to do a lesson on guns/shooting. We all went into this simulation room to practice our gun skills.
8. Driven a car in another country - I drove in Canada! Which is not that much different than the US but it counts!
10. Stayed up past dawn - Only once! My brother and I always wanted to stay up all night on Christmas Eve and we did it one night where we watched all kinds of movies to stay awake. But then I fell asleep by 8am the next day lol.
11. Gone commando - Oh yes. Yoga pants are not conducive to underoos!
12. Wet my pants - So. Many. Times. I have very weak muscles down there, I guess, so if I'm not clenching before I sneeze or cough, I wet my pants. It's fun times.
You've done so many cool things!
I am laughing at your #12! I get it. I don't have weak muscles (I don't think?) but I think I often hold it too long and then it is hard to keep it in once the body knows it is time to go! Haha. And re the MHC, it was not the most fun thing to be honest, but I did do it regardless!
DeleteFirst off, I appreciate that you make this easy with a ctrl V instructions!
ReplyDelete1. Shot a gun - Yes. When I was working for a theatre in the mountains of Colorado, the stage crew would go into the forest during the meal breaks and practice target shooting at trees. One time I mentioned that I'd never shot a gun and they insisted on taking me with them and teaching me how to shoot a shotgun. It was a bizarre experience - also afterwards I really thought about it, and realized it was probably not the safest thing in the world to randomly be shooting off shotguns in the forest.
2. Joined the mile high club - oh no. I've changed a diaper in a airplane bathroom and the thought of doing anything more complicated than that just seems uncomfortable.
3. Eaten a rambutan - yes! We had some when we were in Kuala Lumpur this winter. My kids LOVED them. (Ironically - I just posted a picture of a rambutan on my blog this week and I'm really delighted to see the word rambutan on someone else's blog.)
4. Driven a tractor - no. Does a riding lawnmower count?
5. Been over 5,000 m (16,500 ft) in elevation - no. Wow.
6. Eaten a bug (on purpose) - Yes! There is a Mexican restaurant near us and they serve crickets as a snack. Also my cousin invested in a company that makes cricket flour and cricket chips and she periodically sends us their products.
7. Read a book in another language - I think I read something in French in high school. I read a lot of picture books in French these days because my son is in a language immersion program.
8. Driven a car in another country - nope.
9. Driven a motorcycle - no. That's sort of terrifying to me.
10. Stayed up past dawn - many times in college. I was not good at writing my papers in a timely manner.
11. Gone commando - I don't think so. If I did it was because I needed to do laundry.
12. Wet my pants - more than I want to admit. There are days when I can't walk and sneeze at the same time.
13. Had an Irish car bomb - no. I had to look this one up.
14. Smoked a hookah - yes. On a trip to Egypt my friend wanted to try one so we did.
15. Heard a call to prayer - yes. When we were in Kuala Lumpur this winter.
16. Stepped on a snake - no.
I've done 10, 11, and 12...the rest, no...wondering about the altitude. I'm not sure about the altitude skiing in Tahoe. Hmmm. MAYBE I've driven in Canada or France, but honestly, I don't think so. Hmm. What is wrong with me?
ReplyDeleteBTW, great idea for a list, that was a fun read, and I enjoyed seeing other people's comments, too. :)
