I decided to do it this year because I have SO MANY half finished drafts and my plan is to finally finish them, clear my outbox and move on with my life. I also will follow some rules, which I will outline below.
I will not be commenting on all of the participants posts every day. This is probably the main reason that I have never done this project before. I am a maximizer and also not one to do a job half assed, so I feel like if I am going to do something, I have to do it 100%. I am telling myself, and you right now, that I my 100% will be commenting on maybe 8-12 posts per day, and this includes my regular list of people, even those who are not playing along. I will not leave them behind. I will follow along with the NBPM folks, and will probably read but not comment on a lot of them each day.
I will still be responding to people's comments. I find this is the most important part of blogging to me, that I am accountable. However, if in the melee I miss one or two, please forgive me in advance.
My schedule will be thus. I am telling you this because feel free to skip the ones that don't appeal to you; I will not be offended!! And for all of those people who get this in their inbox, I apologize for sending you so much stuff!! Feel free to delete them all and come back in December. I will not take offense!
Monday: Money
Tuesday: Travel
Wednesday: What I Learned
Wednesday: What I Learned
Thursday - Sunday: TBD / free form
Making the above list just gave me a sense of Deja vu, because back in the day, we used to do Workout Wednesday, What I Ate Wednesday, Wordless Wednesday etc. So many themes!!
How I will stay organized. I have created a list of posts that I will be writing for sure, as well as a list of ideas for the days where I am feeling flat. I also will write 90% of the posts a few days in advance and schedule them for a few days afterward, so that I am never trying to write frantically the night before.
I also created a Feedly group where I copied or added all of the participants so I can keep things segregated. This way I can make sure I don't neglect my regular reads because of the hustle and bustle of the NBPM posts.
Also, to fill in any blanks, I will periodically be answering Ask Me Anything questions, so please go to my form and fill out some questions or leave your questions in the comments below!
Stay tuned for tomorrow, when I will be telling my origin story for those of you who are new here!
Have you ever participated in NaBloPoMo? Are you participating this year? What is the number one reason that you blog? If you don't blog, what is the number one reason that you read blogs and/or comment on blogs??
This post is part of NaBloPoMo. You can find the rest of my posts for this challenge here. You can find the list of participants and their information here.
I am more or less new to the blog so I am looking forward to tomorrows post. I have read a few linked articles from your blog or the guest posting that poped up here and there.
ReplyDeleteI also have dedicated NabloPo folder in feedly. most of my regular blogs I follow are doing NaBloPo so I am lucky that overlapps. I agree answering comments and having a sort of conversation is the best of blogging. I have answered every blog so far on my blog i think.
I would love to learn more about your job. I wanted to go into the field back in teh day but had no idea how. Like what kind of education one would need. And are you still doing it? It sounded like you are no longer working in that field. I guess at this point I only have questions and will be enjoying reading along.
I am also lucky that a lot of my NBPM (I am calling it that! It is too long to type all the time) folder are people that I already follow so that does help! However, even 20 people for 30 days gets to be a lot! I think we can cut each other some slack though!
DeleteI would be happy to answer all of the questions that you have! Hopefully tomorrow's post will answer some of them but if not, ask away! The AMA form will be available all month! :)
Yay! I'm looking forward to your posts! I'm not participating, but I'm definitely going to enjoy everyone's writing.
ReplyDeleteWell you will have plenty of writing to enjoy! Thanks for following along and hopefully you will find some entertainment in it!
DeleteThis is my third year. As you know, I'm being a bit more "lax" this year - skipping Sunday's and generally commenting less. Like you, I'm focussing on the people I already know which might not be the point of NaBloPoMo, but I want to invest in existing relationships that mean a lot to me. That said, even there, I know I won't be able to comment on every post (which will be hard for me to do). It's a good exercise in self-restraint and setting boundaries.
ReplyDeleteI'm especially excited to read all your money posts. I know we tend to be relatively aligned on this topic, and I'm sure I'll glean some helpful tips and just generally enjoy the discussions <3
I hope that you do enjoy my money posts. Despite quitting my job for the reasons that you already know about, I really did like it. I loved the puzzle part of it, figuring out how to make things work and helping people to achieve their goals. I think after this month, I will still keep it on as a monthly feature, as they are probably some of my favorite ones to write!
DeleteYipeeeeee!!!! I'm excited for all of your posts but you know I'm really jonesing for Money Mondays!!!
ReplyDeleteI did NaBloPo in 2022, and it was totally an impulse decision with no plan and nothing written in advance. I enjoyed it but it was hectic. I haven't had the mental capacity to do it since then. I highly approve of modifications to make NaBloPo manageable - limiting comments, skipping a day here or there, etc, etc==>the first and only rule of blogging is that it's supposed to be fun.
I guess that answers the question of why I blog - it's fun!
It is fun, and see my answer to Elisabeth above; I love talking about money, frugality, financial independence, etc. I could do it as a job! Oh wait, I kind of did! Except my clients were not worrying about cutting coupons, that is for sure.
DeleteI have never done this and I can pretty confidently say I never will! Ha. But I will follow along and comment as I am able to! I’m looking forward to your money posts the most since that is a topic I love as you know!!
ReplyDeleteI do not respond to comments. If I was I wordpress and people could be notified of my response I would!!
I thought I never would either, because I feel like I am spamming people, and I didn't want to give up the fun of the back and forth comments with people. I have no issue coming up with 30 posts though! We will see how it goes! I always comment back but I do sometimes wonder if anyone checks back to see if I answered. Regardless, I will continue to do it.
DeleteI'm really excited that you're participating, Kyria! I have a NaBloPoMo folder in Feedly, too, as well as a "Must Reads" folder so the goal is to clear those out every day but I know that won't be possible every day! I'm glad November started on a Friday so I can at least feel ahead of the game at the beginning of this month haha.
ReplyDeleteThis is my 4th year doing NaBloPoMo! I don't love spamming people with posts but I do love the challenge of getting a post up every day.
I like the challenge also, and people can delete them if they want. But I do have this fear that they are going to see me as I see United Airlines, where you buy one flight and get an email a day after that, even though you never wanted it! :) I know all of your know what you are getting into though.
DeleteI never knew that NaBloPoMo had to be formally hosted. When I participate, I just post every day, period. It's just a freeform thing for me. Hm.
ReplyDeleteI always like reading what you offer, Kyria, so I'll be here, no matter what or when. Looking forward to the origin of it all.
Nance, I don't think it has to be formal, but it is fun to have a group of people doing it so we can all support each other! I hope to provide you with some entertainment this month.
DeleteGood morning, Kyria. I think your rules make perfect sense. I feel the same - there's no way I can comment on every blog, every day AND, I don't want to leave my regular reads in the dust. You're more tech saavy than I am as I have no clue how to create a Feedly list with participants. I have a loose plan or theme for my posts, but then interrupted my own plan to launch with the Halloween costume review. I, too, have SO many drafts. I might be tapping into those as well. I look forward to learning more about you tomorrow. That photo at the top - is that a pic you took? I know you are a traveler, so maybe that's you on the porch of a cute cabin?
ReplyDeleteI am doing NBPM (I like the abbreviation), and I did it last year. Last year I joined at the last minute and I had no plan. I started blogging, because I like to tell stories and as a stay at home mom, I wanted to keep the creative juices flowing. But - I've kept blogging, because it's so fun. I've really enjoyed meeting people I otherwise wouldn't know. I so appreciate the supportive community.
I too really appreciate the supportive community! It is priceless. I do take a lot of photos, but more of landscapes than myself. The photo above, you're going to kill me, was generated with Gemini (AI). However, I did tell what to do, and I definitely asked for the mountain cabin, porch, notebook combo!
DeleteThat's so funny. I know very little about AI and never would have thought that's where that photo came from.
DeleteIt is still learning, like I told it to put specific things on the Ideas list, but it just put gibberish. But it came pretty close to what I wanted!
DeleteYay Kyria, I am so glad you're joining this year. You obviously don't need any encouragement or challenge to blog, you've been doing it successfully for so many years, but I am glad you're giving NaBloPoMo a go this year... if only to clear out the draft backlog LOL well, you can be sure I am excited to follow along.
ReplyDeleteI also have a NaBloPoMo Feedly Group to stay on top and I love that everyone is expressing this year how they want to make NaBloPoMo work for them and NOT make it a stressful event... that's exactly how I want you all to approach this! Nobody is keeping score on posts or comments.
I am also particularly interested in Money Monday posts, but I know all your content will be worth reading! Let's get this party started!
Amen, let's get this party started! I think it is a great way to get out of your comfort zone a little, to learn new things, and to meet new friends. I am also trying to learn a new thing myself each post or every few days, which is why I have been experimenting with things like AI, Canva, codes etc. (TBD) and I hope to start incorporating them as I learn them.
DeleteLooking forward to reading your next post as I am relatively new to your blog. I am mostly just blogging during NaBloPoMo. I would like to do it more often but the rest of the year other priorities just come first. Maybe that will change one day. I like the community that comes with blogging but I also understand not commenting on every post this month. For me it's a way to sort through my thoughts and remember things I did.
ReplyDeleteI think even if you use it as a once a year journal, or something like that, it can still be a good way to keep a record of where you were in this snapshot in time. I have a lot of fun looking back on some of my older posts, even though at the time they don't often seem like much.
DeleteYay! Can’t wait to see you in NaBloPoMo 2024. I did it last year and it was overwhelming but still kind of great. I do not have a plan, but will wing it.
ReplyDeleteSorry, that’s Daria from momofchildren
ReplyDeleteDaria! I can't wait to see what you have to say! And this is what you make of it, so I don't think you need to put yourself under too much pressure!
DeleteOkay, I'll try to think of some questions for you. I'm fascinated by your current lifestyle so I should be able to come up with some good ones!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear them! I mean, I can talk about running for hours! (along with many other things, of course!)
DeleteI have a blog because I love having a journal of my life. I blogged for many years when no one read it. But these days I really love the community that's built around our little bloggy circle!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to read all your posts this month!
I'm glad you're participating, and I'm looking forward to your posts! I have done this quite a few times over the years. One year I put my name in at BlogHer, and I won an iPad mini! YAY! Mostly I have done it the way Nance describes, just post every day on my own. Finding San and her group has made a big difference, it's great to find such a supportive group. I guess I could have found everyone the old fashioned way, since Nance and Abby were long term readers, but it was when Engie started coming by and I followed her back to her blog, and then saw someone had a list of participants...FUN.
ReplyDeleteIt would be fun to have a flow chart of how we each met each other, or who's blog we used as the connection to find other blogs. I honestly cannot remember many of the old ones, but I think I met a lot of people most recently through NGS and Lisa!
DeleteI did it two years ago in an unofficial way: I didn't announce my plans to, just tried blogging every day and ended up doing it. I'm not doing it this year, though; too much going on. But I'm looking forward to learning more about people, even those whose blogs I've been reading for a while.
ReplyDeleteI started blogging in 2007, and to quote myself, "I call myself a writer, but I haven't been writing."
To quote myself! Hahah! I am a writer who writes a lot of half things and then doesn't finish them. As of today, I have 141 draft posts! That is embarrassing to even admit. And that doesn't even include the other lists of possible posts I have in the wings.
DeleteI have about eight posts unfinished in my drafts folder so I hope to clear that during NaBloPoMo, but I also have a whole list of ideas for blog posts. That is a good idea, setting a comment limit, maybe I will adopt that.
ReplyDeleteOtherwise I think there are 30 people in the group this time and I don't know if I can comment on all 30 every day + respond to my own commenters (plus comment on the handful of people that are not doing NBPM!) It's a lot!
DeleteI am just getting started on a blog that I am excited about. I am also extremely nervous. This NaBloPoMo event will be a great way to get me out of my comfort zone. It's also very fun to say.
ReplyDeleteThat's great! Well you are on the right track already. I have found that being part of the community is one of my favorite parts of blogging! Welcome!
