Then and Now: March

Looking back on the last year is fun. I like seeing where I was then vs where I am now. Some things are SO different; others are exactly the same. Last year I was traveling around Southeast Asia. I chopped off my hair in Bangkok, I had a few bad days, and I dealt with some money problems. This year I chopped off my hair again, my fire got put out by some hot firemen, and I tried a couple of new things.

Let's take a look at what happened March 2011 vs what happened in March 2012, the Who, the What and the Where.

WHO:

2011:
A few monks and a few monkeys

2012:
Mr. L, Dad, Lucy the dog

WHAT:

2011 Activities:
Scuba Diving, Not so much running

2012 Activities:
Paddle boarding, Running

Running Miles:
2011: 0 / 2012: 106

March 2011 was a no running month. I did do some hiking and walking, but no running. I am glad that this year I am focusing more on running (as well as still doing some hiking and walking!)

Races:
2011: 0 / 2012: 6

2011 Food:
Fresh Fruit Breakfast and Pad Thai Lunches

2012 Food:
Veggies!  Oats, fruit, nuts!

Reads:
2011: 8 / 2012: 2

It seems that with an increase in running comes a decrease in reading. I can't say that March's books were all that interesting; maybe that is the reason for less reading. I sometimes try to find other things to do if my book isn't capturing my attention.

WHERE:

 2011:
Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore

2012:
Oakland, Florida, Kansas City

The verdict? March in both years was pretty good as far as eating and traveling goes, but my activity levels have increased a lot since last March and my reading levels have decreased a lot. I am really having a great month this month visiting lots of friends and family, running and making new meals! I will be happy if April continues along a similar vein.

What were you doing last March? What things in your life have changed in the last year?

  1. Last March I was walking with a cane due to my chronic pain illness. Now one year later after six surgeries between Nov-Jan I can walk without it. Last March I was parked inside a house most of the time. Now this March I'm getting around more, going for short walks, or just getting out and not letting my disability own me.

  2. Yum, that pad thai looks delicious! Crazy to think you weren't running much at this point last year and have become so fast in the span of a year!

Last March was very similar to this month. Lots of studying. No traveling. So just kind of boring, nose-in-a-book type of months. Which is fine because it's necessary right now. I didn't keep track of my studying last year, but this month I am on track to study about 75 hours, which is quite a bit.

  3. Definitely different adventures! Last March was a crazy month. I finished up my month in China for work and came home to a renovated house!

  4. Love seeing all your travels! Last March was a rough month- in an attempt to get out of the funk I was in, I tried to give up the internet for sixty days. I didn't last the sixty days but it did do the trick by helping me get outside and be more active. This March I have a serious case of spring fever and I can't wait until it's nice enough to be outside more!

  6. That pad thai looks delicious! Hmmm last March I was living in Chicago, hating my job, stressing about where we were gonna move. This March I'm living in Pittsburgh, loving the job, and know I'm going to be here for at least another 4 years. I like that kind of stability!

  7. I guess it's inevitable that when we spend more time on one thing, we have to take it from somewhere else. I've been reading a lot more lately. But I haven't been running at all. Hmmm...

  8. I turned 50 and learned to say things like...."It's not important" and "No". I learned how to swim and realized I won't drown. I've learned to cherish those people who truly are my friends. Life isn't perfect and it's better that way.

  9. What a cool idea to compare then and now. It's amazing how much can change in one year. I'll have to think about my then and now and compare.
