Twenty Questions (E3): Have I Ever? Yup!

You know I love a good Never Have I Ever list! Elisabeth has some good ones and I actually got a 10 out of 10 on one of hers (meaning that I HAD done everything on her NHIE list!) and am striving to do it again one day! Today, however, I have my own list of things that I HAVE done, as this is easier to think up (note that I will be doing a real NHIE later in this series, so stay tuned)! As always, crowd participation is welcomed and I have pasted the list at the bottom so you can copy and paste (Ernie, it is CTRL-C, CTRL-V,😊) and add your answers to the comments! Also, don't forget to fill out --> THE QUESTIONNAIRE!

You can see other posts in the Twenty Questions series here

1. Eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant. I have actually been lucky enough to have gone to a few of them! Quince, Benu, Atelier Crenn, Single Thread, Eleven Madison Park. I have been to a few two stars (Commis, Aquerello) and one stars (State Bird Provisions) also. However, my favorite are the Bib Gourmands, which are fancy but more affordable places that have not quite made it to one star yet. Often after they get a star the price goes WAY up and it much harder to get a reservation, but the Bib Gourmands are still more reasonable.

2. Been to Alaska. After having this on my list for years and years, I finally went in 2023 with my hiking pal Bugsy, and we had a good time hiking, seeing the mountains, looking at the sea, and sleeping in the car (haha) which was quite expensive to rent (it was about $1,500 for 12 days!) but was kind of necessary with the distances covered. There is a train that goes from Seward to Fairbanks, but we wanted to get out into nature, naturally (ha!)

3. Driven a tractor. Well, it was a backhoe, but I am counting it!

4. Competed in a Giant Slalom ski race. I was on the ski team in High School and we also did slalom, but my favorite was the GS where you can tuck and go very fast. I am more about speed than technique!

5. Kissed someone of the same gender. I was with a group of guys and one woman and we got dared, and I did it, but it didn't do anything for me. I guess I am no Katy Perry

6. Met a celebrity. This obviously depends on what you think of as "meet" and "celebrity" but when I worked at Nordstrom, people would come in all the time. I saw (did not meet) Danny Glover, Vladi Divak, Cindy Crawford (she has big feet!) and helped Kristy Yamiguchi, and Benjamin Bratt (who I think was with Julia Roberts at the time). I also went over to the men's suits department when I got a tip from a friend, and I shook the hand of one of the main SF Giant's players, which of course I cannot remember which now (I think it was Jason Schmidt, but don't quote me on that).

7. Swam with sharks. I did the great white cage dive in South Africa and also swam with a lot of harmless sharks while diving in Australia and Thailand.

8. Drank moonshine. Every country has their version, so I have had some rocket fuel in many countries. In Ireland, it's PoitΓn (not to be confused with poutine), in Bolivia you have to pour a little on the ground in an offering to Pachamama. In Georgia, everyone and their uncle make homemade ChaCha and in Serbia you may burn off your tongue with the Rakija. The list goes on, but if I am offered it, I always say yes.

9. Learned how to use a map and compass. Obviously, and luckily, it has been a while since I have had to use this skill, but it is there just in case!

10. Played Frogger on a ColecoVision. Oh the good ol' days! My friend had maybe three games, and one of them was Frogger. A few years later, my uncle gave us a Nintendo, and I would challenge any of you to a game of Duck Hunt or Mario!

11. Been to a heavy metal concert. Oh the 90s were great, weren't they? My first concert ever was Bryan Adams, who obviously is not heavy metal, but after that, I saw the Scorpions, and I was hooked. Since then, I have seen Metallica, The Deftones, Korn, Rage Against the Machine (if that counts?) and more. Two that I am sad that I did not see due to people dying were Nirvana and Alice in Chains, and I had a Guns n Roses concert booked for April 2020, but we all know how that turned out.

12. Ridden in a helicopter. When I was in Nepal near Mt. Everest, Mr. Lovely got injured, and we had to get helicoptered out to Kathmandu. Of course, he paid for it (P.S. he did not have insurance and that ride cost about $6,000), and had to stay strapped to a gurney, while I got to enjoy the (very good!) mountain views.

13. Walked on a glacier. See above: Alaska. Also I have done this in New Zealand at the Franz Joseph glacier which was very cool. I have also done it in several other places over the years.

Alaska

14. Ridden a camel. If you are newer to this space, you may not know that in 2010, I did a trip around the world with my then boyfriend, Mr. Lovely. We did a camel ride in India, but it was not the greatest, as we felt basically cheated by the companies, or should I say, "taken for a ride?" and I hate that feeling. It spurred Mr. Lovely to compare India and Nepal, and he talked so much about it that I made him do a guest post about why Nepal is better than India. Enjoy!

India

15. Used a bike to commute to work. In Oakland, I would ride Bertha (the bike) to the BART train several times a week! I miss that ol' broad.

Bertha

16. Eaten dog food. When I was a kid, I figured I'd try it. If the dog enjoyed it, maybe I would too. To be honest, it was not that bad. I wouldn't make a habit of it, but if there is an apocalypse, don't turn your back on pet food!

17. Put a body part into each of the five Great Lakes. On my trip across the US and Canada last year, I made sure to do this. I even swam in a couple of them!

Lake Huron

18. Dehydrated my own food. As a hiker, this has been a fun thing to learn. I also enjoy making jerky or dehydrated fruit, and this came in very handy when I was harvesting my fruit and could not keep up!

Dehydrating chicken curry

19. Run an ultramarathon (more than 26.2 miles). Several of them! You can find more about that here

20. Been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. Although I lived off and on in NOLA for about 6 years, I only went to one! Pro tip: the lead up to Mardi Gras is more fun than the week of, as the week of is chaos. However, there are a ton of parades in the weeks before that and they are much more low key!

Your turn!

44 comments:

  1. Well I haven't done too many here:
    I have:
    3. Driven a tractor - definitely
    6. Met a celebrity - quite a few! My fave was Jim Cuddy.
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass - school orienteering class
    10. Played Frogger on an Atari - also Donkey Kong
    11. Been to a heavy metal concert
    13. Walked on a glacier - yes! I'm from western Canada!
    14. Ridden a camel - in Egypt
    18. Dehydrated my own food - all the time!
Bonus question: of course! Doesn't that happen to everyone?

    1. Nicole, I need details! I found India and Egypt to be the two places that I felt the most ripped off, or cautious about being ripped off.

I love Donkey Kong. My parents had a bar and they had one of those sit down DK machines in the 80s and 90s. That was great. I can rock some Donkey Kong!

  2. I've got a low score today. Here's where I stand:

    - I have not been to Alaska, but I plan to go there in the next few years.
    - lol I am old enough that I've used a paper map, and also old enough to know that it is unlikely that I will ever use one again. I recently threw out the US atlas that had been in the trunk of my car since the 90s.
    - as a kid I tried a teeny tiny dab of cat food. It did not go well.
    - my body part in Great Lake score is 2/5 (Erie and Michigan). I've been to 3/5 in the past year, but I don't think I dipped into Lake Ontario. Give me another year and I'll be 5/5. We took Doggo to the Lake Erie earlier this summer, and her score is only 1/5 but she got her entire belly in the lake which I think that should count more than me wading in to my knees.

  3. KYRIA. You have an amazing list of ultras on your running page!!!!!!! I knew you ran them in the past but had no idea you had run so many, and some incredible distances as well. I need more details!!!!!!
Anyway. I haven't done many of these. Yes to:
2- although this is controversial. I once had a layover in the Anchorage airport. Maybe that doesn't count.
    5- in college! Meh.
6- again, controversial. I was a cater waiter for a fancy part in NYC, and Derek Jeter asked me for more champagne. I'm counting it!
15- I rode my bike to work a few years ago when my car was being repaired.
18- I used to! My dehydrator is out in the garage now.
    19- yes!

    1. Re running, yes, I used to be an ultrarunner... πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜’ I think that Derek Jeter TOTALLY counts; he talked to you! That is cool. Was he nice? He seems so huge. I think he was on SNL and he was pretty funny. I would love to hear about what you used to dehydrate! I love dried fruit (although I always eat too much and it gives me tummy rumbles) but it works great for many things!

  4. I've ridden a bike to work. That is IT. So I'm 1/20. Ha. Rather pitiful...
I've SEEN multiple Michelin restaurants, but never eaten in one.

    1. Oh man, you almost got a perfect 0/0! That would have been amazing! But 1/20 is pretty impressive. You now have 19 more things for your bucket list!

  5. 2. Been to Alaska--in 2006...? It was our 25th anniversary trip. Outstanding.
    5. Kissed someone of the same gender--Yep. Several times.
    6. Met a celebrity--Toni Morrison and several Cleveland athletes. Iron Chef Michael Symon
    8. Drank moonshine--Yes, and I don't care for it.
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass--ages ago, and poorly
    10. Played Frogger on an Atari--Yes! I can still hear the music. And I played it at a disco upstairs in their arcade.
    13. Walked on a glacier--In Alaska, but only briefly.
    14. Ridden a camel--Yes, twice, and in Cleveland!
    16. Eaten dog food--Yes, on a dare from my sister. It was not good.
    17. Put a body part into each of the five Great Lakes--Just Erie, Michigan, and Ontario that I know of. I was on a big caravan trip with my mother's side of the family when I was just 4 or 5, and I may have been in the other two as well. No way to know now.
    18. Dehydrated my own food--Does making oven-dried tomatoes and herbs count? If so, yes.

    1. You rode a camel in Ohio?

I think your list is impressive! Firstly, does anyone "enjoy" moonshine? Haha! I like trying new things but it definitely burns and I don't really think of it as something I drink for pleasure. Plus, don't tell all of the nationalists, but many of them pretty much taste the same! I feel the same about many things as you do about the Great Lakes...I can't really remember for sure if I did it or not! I could have, but I cannot definitively say that I did! And yes, oven dried tomatoes and herbs count! We used to make jerky in the oven all the time!

    2. The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo offered camel rides, and my sons and I rode camels twice there. There was no way I was going to pass that up. If they ever offer any other kind of animal ride, I'll do that, too.

      Delete
  6. I have not done many of these!

    8. Drank moonshine - a college friend's dad let us try some apple pie moonshine. It tasted better than I thought it would.
    12. Ridden in a helicopter - I did this in NZ
    13. Walked on a glacier - I did this in NZ
    15. Used a bike to commute to work - I did this during Apr-Oct when I lived downtown!

Oof - only 4!! But I have played Atari, just not frogger.

    1. I think you can count the Atari as a yes then. I mean, it is still impressive that we played those games and loved them back in the day! I do miss Donkey Kong! I remember your bike share program. I think that MN was one of the first actually and I remember being impressed that you guys did it before San Francisco (if I am remembering right!)

      Delete
  7. 5. Kissed someone of the same gender - I mean, who hasn't?
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass - In sixth grade, we did a winter wilderness camp and they taught us.
    14. Ridden a camel - At a zoo. Does that count?
    15. Used a bike to commute to work - In Minneapolis, it was honestly the easiest way to get around the city.
    17. Put a body part into each of the five Great Lakes - YES!!

Bonus question: Of course. As you know, I generally feel like traveling is overrated and I feel this way because so many things are absolute letdowns. The Grand Canyon is just a big hole with too many people around. New York City smells like piss, has trash everywhere, and costs too much. I mean...people think traveling is great, but I'm not 100% convinced.

    1. Answer to number five, a few people who commented above you. I guess they haven't really lived! Haha. Camel at a zoo totally counts! Minneapolis is above and beyond with the biking infrastructure. I really love it, and YAY for number 17! You go girl!

Re your travel thoughts...for sure a lot of tourist stuff is a rip off from the get go! It feels like a lot of pressure to eat more, buy more, see more, do more. But if you can find the, to use a popular maybe overused term, off the beaten path place, it really can be fun to explore a new place and see new things, and you can often do it for free.

  8. Even my “yes”s are more like “kind of”s but I’m scrounging, ha…
    1. Eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant—no, but a two star once (since closed Gustav in Frankfurt. It was a work function so I didn’t arrange/pay and was just along for the ride!)
    6. Met a celebrity—“kind of” Andre Agassi (was in a corporate suite at a tennis tournament and he stepped in to say hi/thank everyone after the match; kids were invited up to get autographs but I was super shy and also super tall (like… several inches taller than Andre Agassi tall lol), so even though I was only 13/a “kid,” I stayed back; “kind of” Steven Weber (from Wings… locked eyes and smiled at him in surprise/recognition walking through Times Square, and he raised his eyebrows and smiled back.)
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass—I was *taught* in first grade, but didn’t necessarily… *learn*….
    10. Played Frogger on an Atari—not on Atari but on an arcade game that was in an AirBnB in VT just last yr!
    11. Been to a heavy metal concert—does Greta Van Fleet count?
    18. Dehydrated my own food—yes, apples, but have since determined it’s better for my purposes to just buy them!
6k is honestly not bad for Medevac or the like! I’ve read horror stories of 50k+ bills in the US, even w insurance … in any case, glad it all worked out! Sounds scary!

    1. I think Greta Van Fleet is more Zeppelin style and therefore not heavy metal, but maybe hard rock (?), so although they are good, I would say no dice. Sorry. 😊

The best Michelin starred restaurant is one that someone else pays for! Most of mine have also been that too, although I have paid for one myself. Andre Agassi! I am impressed. Even if you just sat there and stared at him, that is pretty cool! Also, now I am curious; how tall are you?

      Delete
    2. I am (& was already at the time) a little over 6’0! I was wearing platform sandals that were trendy at the time so that gave me another couple of inches, not that I needed them lol. Agassi always listed himself at 5’11 but I can confirm he’s more like 5’10 max ;-) He was lovely and I remember his voice and scent!! (fresh, don’t worry, ha… but it def filled the room) very clearly. Everyone including all the adults were completely aghast/in awe. I was there w my dad via tickets he was able to get through an indirect work connection and it was a long drive through traffic to the venue, etc.; in retrospect esp I am so touched that he went through that effort. I need to thank him again next time I see him!

      Delete
    3. That's funny; I actually Googled his height when you first left the comment and it says 5'11" but now I know the truth! Haha! That is very cool and I love that your Dad did that for/with you!

  9. 1. Eaten at a three-star Michelin restaurant - I've eaten at a three-hat restaurant in Melbourne (Vue de Monde), which is the Australian equivalent, since the Michelin guide doesn't extend to Australia. I've also eaten at a couple of Michelin starred restaurants when we've been overseas (Casa Marcelo, Chishuru, but not a 3 star one.
    2. Been to Alaska - no, but hope to
    6. Met a celebrity - Eric Bana lives a couple of houses down the street from us so we bump into him in the street and at the dog park and had the usual neighbourly conversation.
    8. Drank moonshine - no but have had punch made from ethanol another student swiped from the chemistry labs
    12. Ridden in a helicopter - yes, in The Kimberleys, but luckily only for short rides (one for 10 minutes and the other for 30mins which was about my limit). Helicopters are really bad for my motion sickness.
    14. Ridden a camel - yes, on the beach at Broome
    16. Eaten dog food - no, but my daughter ate dog food when she was a toddler. Unfortunately, it must have used some kind of soy product as a filler because she was allergic to soy and ended up with rash and hives all around her mouth.

    1. I also hope to walk on a Glacier one day.

    2. I did not realize that the Michelin guide does not extend to Australia! Why not? I guess I just assumed it was all over the world, since it includes Asia and Europe...Were the restaurants you went to good? I found some of them were VERY good, most of them have great presentation, but some of the food was a bit fiddly and it felt like they focused more on the presentation than the taste (Atelier Crenn specifically, which was too bad because she is a very acclaimed female chef and was the first (I think?) female chef to get three stars so I really wanted to love it).

Eric Bana! When can I come and visit. Swoon! I think your punch counts as moonshine! And...camels in Australia? Are they native? I wouldn't think so, but I never would have though about riding a camel in Australia. Have you been to New Zealand? The Fitzroy glacier is very cool (ha!) and you can walk around on the crevasses!

      Delete
    3. The best guess regarding the Michelin guide is that no one has paid them to do an Australian one. Usually, local governments pay for it. Both the starred restaurants I went to, I really enjoyed, and they both definitely focused on the taste.

Camels were introduced in the 19th century as pack animals. Many were let loose, so now there are feral camels in the outback. I've been to New Zealand once but to the North Island for my niece's baptism. I do have some more things in New Zealand on my list of places to see. Will add Fitzroy glacier.

      Delete
    4. There were a lot of strange animals introduced to Australia, weren't there? Am I remembering right that deer or maybe possums were not native and now are overrunning everything?

  10. As expected, I haven't done a ton of things on your list. I need a memoir from you - your life is insane!

I have... kissed someone of the same gender (many times, lol), met a celebrity, and drank moonshine. The moonshine one is crazy because an old boss used to make it himself and leave his moonshine in the freezer at work. Sometimes at the end of a campaign, he'd let us all have a shot if we wanted. I was not a fan!

    1. What celebrity! I need details! Regarding the moonshine, yeah it is often very strong and not that tasty. But it gets the job done, don't it!? 😊

  11. Your turn!
    1. Eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant
    2. Been to Alaska
    3. Driven a tractor
    4. Competed in a Giant Slalom ski race
    5. Kissed someone of the same gender
    6. Met a celebrity
    7. Swam with sharks
    8. Drank moonshine

    18. Dehydrated my own food
    19. Run an ultramarathon (more than 26.2 miles)
    20. Been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans.

Bonus question: have you ever felt ripped off when traveling? Yes, I bought a lift ticket to ski and I'd never been skiing. It was expensive and this was in the Swiss Alps, BTW. I did not love it and was mad that I'd been convinced to even bother trying. After one trip down, I sold my lift ticket, but still felt like I'd wasted my money. That really is more of a story of me feeling like I'd wasted my money vs feeling ripped off, I guess. But I'm a frugal person and at the time as a college student, whoa Nelly, I did not like to waste my money.

I didn't really need to copy the list since I've done almost none of them, but since you were good enough to give me personalized instructions - I had to show off that I figured it out. I think the only thing I've done is meet a celebrity. I babysat for Maury Buford (he was on the '85 Superbowl Chicago Bears) and when I was in college, I went to one of his games with my college roomie. After the game he took us to a bar where all the Bears hung out and Michael Jordan showed up. Maury introduced us and took a photo of us with him. My mom later had that photo put on a sweatshirt for me as a Christmas gift. Um, I didn't wear it much.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Da Bears! Oh my gosh, do you still have that sweatshirt? If so, either you need to start wearing it now or you need to get one of the kids to start wearing it now, because that is like the coolest thing ever (meeting Jordan, AND of course having a sweatshirt with the photo).

Nice job with the copy paste! You did it! High five!✋

      Delete
  12. LOL that you left instructions for Ernie. Yay, it worked!

    OK, here’s my list.
    1. Eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant - No, though I have eaten at some of the restaurants you mentioned that are NOT 3 star, like Aquarello and La Folie, and I had lunch once at Cotogna, which was a sister restaurant to Quince, and I ate at Myth, which was in the same space before Quince. So I feel kind of like I’ve eaten at Quince. The fanciest meals I’ve eaten have been in Paris, at Laperouse and Le Train Bleu. Laperouse is perhaps the capris restaurant to have 3 Michelin stars, back in 1933. We ate there on our honeymoon in 1993.
    2. Been to Alaska - Yes - Lived there from 1970 - 1975 (Fairbanks), visited in 1999 (Juneau), went back to help my mom when she had open heart surgery (Anchorage), then visited with my brother and our families in 2023 (Fairbanks, Anchorage, Homer, Juneau) - We took the train from Fairbanks to Anchorage, and didn’t get to see Denali because it was being shy that day..
    3. Driven a tractor - Nope
    4. Competed in a Giant Slalom ski race - Nope
    5. Kissed someone of the same gender - Pretty sure this is a nope. Would have if I had the chance though.
    6. Met a celebrity - Quite a few when I worked in hotels. The band Midnight Oil, Jerry Seinfeld, Weird Al, Harry Anderson, not sure who else. I feel like maybe Cindy Crawford stayed at the hotel (Ramada Renaissance then, before it was P55). Side note, I used to love going to Nordstrom with a dress and having the shoe salespeople find me the perfect match. Always so fun and gracious and would work within my budget. Maybe you helped me once, who knows?
    7. Swam with sharks - Nope
    8. Drank moonshine - Nope
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass - Yes
    10. Played Frogger on an Atari - Unlikely, but not outside the realm of possibility.
    11. Been to a heavy metal concert - Nope - Plenty of concerts, none Heavy Metal
    12. Ridden in a helicopter - Hell no. Some coworkers were in a helicopter accident once, no one was seriously injured but WOW horrible.
    13. Walked on a glacier - Nope. I’ve been to Mendenhall a couple of times, but never walked on it.
    14. Ridden a camel - Yes, at Marine World when it was in Redwood City
    15. Used a bike to commute to work - Yes, when we were a 1 car family and my work was right down the Iron Horse Trail from me.
    16. Eaten dog food - Probably, but I am not sure. I have eaten dry cat food though. Meh.
    17. Put a body part into each of the five Great Lakes - Nope. I’ve been to Toronto and Niagara Falls, so I’ve seen L. Ontario, but I don’t think I put my feet in. I guess maybe I’ve seen L. Erie too.
    18. Dehydrated my own food - My mom had a dehydrator, we used to make dried fruit sometimes. And I’ve dried tomatoes in my oven.
    19. Run an ultramarathon (more than 26.2 miles) - Nope
    20. Been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans. - Nope

Ever felt ripped off while traveling - Hmmm. Probably. I choose to think that vacation money is not the same as at home money, so it’s OK. But I’ve definitely done touristy things that were expensive and likely not worth it.

    1. How was Cotogna? I wanted to try it but never did. That is very cool that you went to Laperouse during your honeymoon. I would love to go to a *** in France, the home of the guide! I remember your most recent AK trip, and I am sorry Denali was shy. It was also shy when I was there, which I was a little bummed about but the other mountains were also very pretty, so I didn't miss out all together.

I love your answer to number five! Haha! And also your celebrity list is quite impressive! And I probably did help you pick out shoes. I helped a lot of people over the years! I can't believe that store is gone now... I never knew that (a) Marine World was ever in Redwood City and (b) that you could ride a camel there! I remember when it was in Vallejo but now I think that is a Six Flags (?)

      Delete
    2. Back then it was called ‘Marine World, Africa USA’, and there were no rides. It was just animals. I was once picked from the crowd at a show with a naturalist to pet a cheetah! The highlight of 5th grade, for sure. There were a lot of animals there that should not have been in captivity, but I loved seeing them. Orcas, dolphins, seals, elephants, cheetahs, monkeys, tons of exotic birds, maybe giraffes, I don’t remember it all. I LOVED IT.

  13. 1. Eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant: yes (Cork, Ireland), not impressed and the place lost its star the following year
    2. Been to Alaska: never set foot on the American continent
    3. Driven a tractor: several times
    4. Competed in a Giant Slalom ski race: no but several school races as a kid in Bavaria
    5. Kissed someone of the same gender: I imagine daughter and granddaughter don't count, so no
    6. Met a celebrity: I shook Bill Clinton' hand and he told me that Beethoven was deaf (duh), I also met Bono before he was famous at a peace rally in Dublin
    7. Swam with sharks: yes, and dolphins
    8. Drank moonshine: definitely
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass: my father taught me when I was eight years old
    10. Played Frogger on an Atari: no idea what that is
    11. Been to a heavy metal concert
    12. Ridden in a helicopter: unfortunately yes, got very sea sick
    13. Walked on a glacier: with my baby daughter in a sling, the Grossglockner glacier
    14. Ridden a camel: no but an elephant
    15. Used a bike to commute to work: for 25+ years
    16. Eaten dog food: no way
    17. Put a body part into each of the five Great Lakes: see question 2
    18. Dehydrated my own food: does fruit count? We dehydrate our surplus apples and pears.
    19. Run an ultramarathon (more than 26.2 miles): no, I am a cyclist
    20. Been to Mardi Gras in New Orleans: see question 2

Bonus question: have you ever felt ripped off when traveling? Booked an airbnb for a family reunion in Dublin and sent an Irish friend to look at the street for parking options only to get her report back that the house was for sale, contacted the owner/host who denied it until I showed him photographs of the for sale signs and the listing I found online. Had to threaten with lawyer but got the downpayment refunded eventually.

    1. Hah! Never set foot on American continent; by this do you mean both south and north? Wow, I am very impressed that you met Bono. That would be cool. Did you talk, or just get a nod or handshake?

I love your answer to number 8. Hah! Definitely. And yes, fruit definitely counts! I love dried fruit. However, I often eat too much of it! It is so good, but then I get a stomach ache!

What a story about the Airbnb, like what did the host think was going to happen? Were they ever going to tell you?

    2. Somehow the countries, people and continents to the east or south or north have always been more interesting, - and offered good employment. Also Irish diaspora and so on.
And Bono was just a shy guy then, early 1980, he sang a Dylan song at the rally and his voice was squeaky and he blushed. We cheered him.

  14. You've done SO many things!! What have I done from your list?
Driven a tractor. Also a fork lift and a skid steer.
Learned how to use a map and compass - one of those skills we learned back in the day.
Ridden in a helicopter - It was a tour of the Grand Canyon. It was spectacular!
I've often felt like I paid too much for things when traveling, but I can't say I've felt ripped off. I've felt more ripped off ordering something from Amazon that turned out not to be anything like it was described!

    1. I had a feeling that you would have driven some heavy equipment, and I bet that ride in the Grand Canyon was great. They always have helicopter rides in beautiful places like that but I have not bitten the bullet and paid for it yet! Re Amazon, YES. I once got an empty box and when I tried to place a return they told me to put the item back in the box and send it back and it was so hard to explain or get across that it had been EMPTY, and in the end I just wrote off the loss (it was like a $12 face lotion and not worth any more of my time at that point).

  15. Fun list!! Impressive too. I've done 11, 14 & 15.

  16. This was fun to read! You have had such a wide range of experiences, Kyria. Every time I read one of your posts, I am awed by how fearless and fun you are!

I have done a few things on your list!
    2. Been to Alaska: I went to Alaska a few years ago and did a driving trip from Anchorage to Homer and back. It was fabulous!
    3. Driven a tractor: I'm counting this even though I didn't actually drive; I was just the passenger while my dad plowed our shelter belt.
    5. Kissed someone of the same gender: Ah, college.
    6. Met a celebrity: Yes! I met Tony Danza in a ski resort many years ago. I also got to meet Charles Gibson when my friend was a guest on Good Morning America in the early aughts.
    9. Learned how to use a map and compass: Ugh, yes. We had a class on orienteering when I was in... middle school? high school? I hated it. Totally useful and worthwhile skills that I am incapable of mastering.
    13. Walked on a glacier: Yes! I have walked on Athabasca Glacier in Alberta, Canada. Gorgeous!
    14. Ridden a camel: I did this at a zoo or a fair or something when I was barely tall enough to meet the height requirement.

    1. Ah college! Tony Danza!? That's cool. Did you talk to him or just see him in passing? I took the same plane as the main guy from The Wire who I would not have recognized but my friend did. However, I really just saw the side of his face; I never actually talked to him or even made eye contact.

I bet the Athabasca glacier was very cool; I love that part of the world!

  17. You know I love these posts....
Some I knew, some I can see you doing. There wasn't anything real surprising this time around.... Is that good or bad? Mhm..

Again I only answer a few of the questions for now

    6. Met a celebrity – quiet a few on the political spectrum including Cancelor Merkel (who happened to go to college with my dad) Also when I was an event manager we had tons of celebrities on stage for stuff. I am not crossed eyed with them. They are all humans and most are nice.

    8. Drank moonshine – yes. in Romania. Can't remember how they called it.
    13. Walked on a glacier – skied on a glacier multiple times. Does that count?
    14. Ridden a camel – yes. In Israel. Also answer the bonus question here. It was a rip of as we were only allowed to sit on it. We did do it again later to say we rode the camel.
    15. Used a bike to commute to work – most definitely.
    16. Eaten dog food – cat food.

    1. Oh Cancelor Merkel! That is very cool! I don't think I have met a politician, that I can remember! I would like to meet Janet Yelen; she looks like a cute grandma, but she is as sharp as a tack!

In Romania, there is a liquor called Palinka; is that the one? Skiing on a glacier does count. So based on your Israel story, camel rides tend to be rip offs! And lastly, cat food counts! Thanks for playing along!
