One year ago yesterday, I wrote this post because I had just chopped off all my hair in the name of Locks of Love.
At the time, the cut I wanted was something like this:
This is what I ended up with:
Not quite the same. In the last year, I have gone through H with this darn head of hair, trying to grow it out long enough to put in a ponytail so I can keep it out of my face so I can run. No clip could tame it.
And then finally, about a week ago, success! No clips needed. I could put it in a ponytail. All on it's own! I was ecstatic. I had been waiting almost a year for this.
So hurray, right? Now I will finally leave it alone. But no. Not really. It was growing out all uneven and it looked like a rat's nest. I attempted some home repair, but only made things worse. So yesterday I bucked up and went to Berkeley to be a hair model. For $20, you have someone whohas never cut hair before is in training practice on you. So that is how I got a new do.
This is what I wanted. Ironically, I had forgotten that last year I also wanted to be like Katie Holmes. Apparently I want whatever she's having, hair-wise. However, I have a pretty bad cowlick and bangs like that are a far away dream to me. I bet her stylist flattens hers down every day. My stylist only knows how to do pony tails.
So I got this instead. Notice I am already clipping it back. I hate having hair in my face.
So, just when I could finally put my hair up, I chopped it back off. Figures. What I thought was funny is that March 5 last year and this year both were chop of your hair day. It's my Hair-iversary. So -- Happy Hair-iversary to me. Here's to growing the new do out faster (and with less clips) than the old one.
Do you cut your hair often? (in the last year I went once) Have you ever been a hair model? Have you ever donated to Locks of Love?
Also, I was featured over on Who's Your Editor yesterday! Pop on over and check it out when you get the chance!

I usually have an inverted bob (like Katie Holmes kind of) but I've been growing it out for the wedding! I've discovered I REALLY like long hair so I'll probably keep it longer from now on!
ReplyDeleteI just had my first haircut in 5 months (that's a long time for me to go w/out a haircut!). I am growing mine out for lock of love, too, so I just trimmed it and colored it (I have lots of grays, and more pop up by the minute it seems). I have never been a hair model!
ReplyDeleteI think you are able to pull off a lot of different lengths of hair! Your hair looks great!
It's so cute, I love it!
ReplyDeleteMy hair is super long, so I only cut it about once every six months. I chopped it all for Locks of Love about 5 years ago and it took forever to grow back out. Not being able to pull it off my face and into a ponytail drove me freaking nuts so I know exactly how you feel!
ReplyDeleteI haven't cut my hair in over a year. Yes, I have donated to locks of love and am thinking about doing it again. I can't stand having my hair touch my face when I am running, it will ruin my run. Weird? Your hair looks cute!
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing....too funny. Grow it out and then cut it off - only do realize that i hate running without a barrette to clip my damn bangs back!

I like the short 'do, but congratulations on having the patience to grow it to ponytail length. Growing out hair is the worst!
ReplyDeleteYour hair looks good! I've donated mine a few times but I always hate the growing out process. I just don't enjoy having short hair so it's rough.
ReplyDeletein 2006 I cut 14 inches off my hair and went for the inverted bob. Snce then it has been various lenghts, but I tend to like it best when the front is just at my shoulders and the back just a little higher. Still long enough for a ponytail, but stylish when down.
ReplyDeleteI donated to Locks of Love in 2010 (post here! http://www.stephanywrites.com/2010/06/blonde.html) It was such a great decision. I'm currently trying to grow out my hair again and it's driving me crazy. I want to cut it off for my cruise, but my brother's wedding is a week before (and I'm a bridesmaid) so I'm probably going to keep growing it.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is, I LOVE having short hair! Absolutely love it. It's so much easier to manage, especially living in Florida. Long hair just gets in my way, so it's usually just up in a ponytail.
ANYWHO! Love the new 'do. You can totally pull off short hair!
My daughter donated to Locks of Love last year. I was so proud of her.
ReplyDeleteMine used to be super long and thick, but has thinned and been colored too much lately. I've gotten very cheap about my hair lately. Especially since it's in a ponytail 90% of the time.
Love the new cut! I'm like you- can't stand having it in my face either, and love being able to put it up. But I really like those cute, short styles!
ReplyDeleteFive years ago I chopped all my hair into a pixie.
ReplyDeleteI have curly hair. Thick, curly hair. So short on me sort of resembles broccoli. Since then, I've been growing it. Back in November it finally hit where I wanted it, so I had it cut into a sort of style. Which is very long, and will stay that way, because I HATE growing my hair out.
I have also done the locks of love thing! Your hair looked great short! Its so convenient to wear it in a ponytail though, especially for working out. I got the cutest short angled bob when I did locks of love...which I loved, but man, growing it out was not fun. I went through a few stages of not loving my hair, but now 3 years later I think my hair is just as long as it was when I hacked it off. Maybe its time to do it again!
