This week, since the weather has been so un-winterlike, I decided to do a little "spring" cleaning. Since I travel so much, all my stuff (except for my one suitcase that I travel with) is in storage. This week, I went through that storage, to see what I could get rid of. Of course, if you are like me, you know that sometimes going through your storage to "get rid of it" results in a walk down memory lane. So, grab a beer (inspired by Kim) and look what I found this week! In addition, I did do a few other things. They are also included below.
Before I went crazy and started doing a major sorting movement, I had my extended family's Christmas party (in January)! It was great to see all the cousins!
My Dad (yup, that's a kilt) and cousin |
Some of my younger cousins -- pretty in pink |
I went running. Only twice! I have been slacking due to the fact that I have had so many other things to do this week! I need to get back on track, so to speak!
I found a new trail! A little overgrown but FUN! |
Instead of running, I have been helping re-roof a house! It is a lot of work!
I also went to an auction -- not to buy anything, but to see how it worked, in case I want to sell anything. BUT...you can get some darn good deals on things! I saw one 46 piece dish set, a nice one too, go for about 5 dollars!
Okay, so you have gone through old stuff, right?
I wonder if you keep as strange of things as I do.
I wonder if you keep as strange of things as I do.
{1} My diary from when I was about 8. Complete with fool proof locking device!
{2} My first medal from my FIRST running race! 1986.
{3} My first digital camera!
{4} My "best friends" necklace from Jr. High! Remember those!?
{5} SO MANY books. It is really hard to get rid of them though!
*in case you can't read, they are "travel/memoir/reference" and "Not Read Yet" *
*These are the "not read yet" books!
A whole box. I am SO embarrassed! I need to get a move on with my book reading goal!*
But...and you should be very proud, I got rid of FOUR bankers boxes of books! FOUR! I am sad, but happy!!
And, last but not least, we had a bonfire. To burn the old files I threw away (tell me, WHY did I keep some of them?) as well as....the Christmas tree! How sad. Except I don't know if you can see or not, but my parents were VERY excited about it.
Okay now, you need to help me. Am I normal? Or do you keep things too? What item is it hardest for you to get rid of? What do you do with your Christmas tree once you take it down?
It can take me so long to go through old stuff because I want to read every letter, reminisce about each item, etc. We used to have big bonfires for our old Christmas trees when I was a kid and I loved it!
ReplyDeleteyou are normal -- i'm a saver, too. i actually have several boxes of empty boxes. i like boxes, i guess. :)
ReplyDeleteThat's normal. Usually I like to toss things, but there are certain things that I always talk myself into keeping. You've been busy! Nice work on getting rid of stuff. We throw our tree into our forest and let it decompose.
ReplyDeleteI go through old stuff every couple of years as my needs change as to why I wanted to keep something from the past. Recently I tossed a bunch of old stuffed animals when I realized there was no way I was giving my daughter a 30 year old stuffed animal to play with.....then I wonder why I hauled it around with me for the past 10 years. LOL
ReplyDeleteI used to save every momento, but when we moved onto the boat I sat down and culled! Big time. And it was a fun walk down memory lane.
ReplyDeleteWe used to burn our trees every year - the neighbors would all get together and have a bonfire. Then the city stopped burning and starting collecting trees to put in a chipper.
I definitely hold onto things, then once the sentimental value has lessened, I"m able to get rid of some stuff. I remember those best friend necklaces!
ReplyDeleteThat BFF necklace is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe can't keep anything around because we have NO storage, so we have to keep a tight ship!
ReplyDeleteHi Kyria - nice to be back (with an actual working internet connection !).
ReplyDeleteMy wife knows if I go into the basement to 'clean up' I'll be gone for hours and I feel very proud if I get rid of even 1 box of stuff. She's quite good at culling - well, my stuff anyway - but I end up in the same trap - start to read things or find books I'd intended to read, and ... well, you know how it goes.
Interesting post. Have a great week !
Those are some fun finds! I have to go through my storage and get rid of some things. I know it will be easier since some unpleasant circumstances caused me to lose a lot of my childhood possessions, but it'll still be interesting to go through what I've got and relive some memories.
ReplyDeleteI have a really hard time parting with books. I got rid of some a couple of years ago, but it was tough!
ReplyDeleteI have shelves of unread books! I now have the top shelf of every bookshelf dedicated to books I haven't read so they are easier to spot when I feel tempted to buy one!
