Monday Misc

My friend Laura is doing a Purposeful Running series, where people talk about why they run. I was lucky that she featured me yesterday! Go over and check it out! To read other people's stories as well, or to submit your story to Laura, go over here!

Mr. Lovely hails from the East Coast, and as you know, I am on the West Coast. So sometimes we find a place in between to meet. This time we headed south for the winter. And are spending some time here.

We are having fun and I will probably talk more about it when we get home! I did make him run a race with me. I ran the 10k and he ran the 5k. It was a good race and he was a good sport! See, here he is; isn't he cute?

Just kidding; that's not him. But isn't that such a cute old man? I have an old man fetish; I think they are the cutest thing ever, especially when they are wearing hats. For real.

Today, for the first time in a long time, I went to a buffet. I quickly remembered why I don't usually go to buffets. Actually, I was pretty proud of myself; I only went up three times: once for salad, once for an entree and once for dessert. I wanted some more ice cream really badly, but seeing Mr. Lovely rolling around in bed later, groaning and clutching his stomach, reminded me that I had made the right decision.
____

Have you ever seen "My Strange Addiction"? There was a girl on there who had an addiction to drinking gas. There was another who snorted baby powder. In the last 16 years, she has snorted almost 2000 pounds of baby powder. It kind of makes me feel like my need to have the milk on the top shelf of the fridge all the time is not that strange after all.

My friend Sarah just posted a story about traveling to Africa on WRTR! Check it out if you get a chance!

Why do you run? Have you ever been in a long distance relationship? Do you have any strange addictions?

  1. Oh, buffets. I ate too many cookies this weekend, though, and at one point was in pain myself. Oops.

My spouse and I have had to do the distance thing short-term when we've been on research trips, but it's never been longer than a couple of months.

  2. Looks like a perfect meeting place :)

The answer to why do you run is potentially long but when it comes down to it I run because it empowers me. It makes me feel like I can do anything.

My experience with long distance relationships was when my husband was in the military and he was gone 6-9 months at a time. It's kind of the same except no visits.

OMG...my strange addiction is freakishly strange! I haven't seen the gas episode. Did you see the one with the addiction to eating dryer sheets? Glass? So weird!

How do you like Breaking Dawn?

  3. I am glad you guys had a chance to get away and spend some time together in a warm, beautiful destination!

I started running because I wanted a challenge and wanted to get in shape. I didn't think I would like it as much as I did/do!

The only time I've been in a long distance relationship was in high school and we were only an hour apart. But that was before cell phones, so we didn't get to talk on the phone all that much as long distance was expensive. When I dated Tom, it felt like a long distance relationship because he would travel Sun-Fri each week towards the end of our relationship.

  4. Enjoyed reading your Purposeful Running feature. I've never been a fan of buffets and even if I get sucked into one, always regret it, sounds like you won at the buffet game though!

  6. That older man is so cute! I always see the commercials for the strange addiction show and I wonder how most of those people are still alive. Gas, baby powder, nail polish, dirt. Gross! I have had a long distance relationship, but it only lasted about a month and I ended up moving to be with him. We have been married now for almost 16 years.

  7. I run because the Marine Corps forces me to. And they've forced me to for so many years that now I feel like a fat lump when I don't.

MacGvyer and I lived 1000 miles apart for a little under a year and had a fun long distance relationship.

I have an addictive personality, but I try to channel it into "acceptable" addictions, like my husband ;-)

  9. Thanks again for sharing! I loved learning more about your story.

My husband and I had one year of long distance when he was doing a service year in Jamaica... great experience for him, but not fun for the relationship. We made it through!

  11. I can't take the buffet's anymore. After being a weekly staple, even hitting the chinese buffet for lunch, they are gone for good. It's not worth the price you pay or the price of overeating. fuggitaboutit.

Loved your running with purpose story! I might have to submit one of my own.

  14. Hope you guys are having a great time! Allan and I did long distance for a semester and then lived in separate cities for a couple of months after we got married. He travels for work now at least a week each month and it works out well for us.
