Beach Trends

As you know, I recently spent some time on the beach, during spring break. So, I am here to tell you what this year's beach trends are going to be, based on what I saw.

{1} The Bandeau Bikini Top: These were EVERYWHERE. Small boobs, big boobs, on men. Okay, that part is not true. But. This was the top du jour! I even saw many a (brave) girl playing paddle ball, corn hole and even...running (yes!) in this top. It's the new sports bra! Personally, I have tried it on before and I think it looks horrible on me. You need to have medium sized boobs to pull this off, in my opinion.

{2} But Without the Matching Bottoms: Now you can keep all your old separates and wear them together, whether they match or not. I especially like it when one is striped and the other is floral. But hey, this is your chance to finally use all those pieces you never thought you would be able to use again!

{3} The Not Annoying at All Whistling Nerf Football: What's more annoying than a bunch of college guys throwing footballs on a crowded beach? College guys throwing footballs that MAKE NOISE. Yes, college guys have found a new way to be annoying. I guess they are smarter than we though.

{4} Sandcastle Shaped Buckets: Is it just me or have toys gotten way better since I was younger? These are awesome. Why didn't they have them when I was a kid? You don't have to shape the castle with your hands anymore, which always results in a castle shaped like a mound? Sweet! I may run to Target and buy some of these for myself right now.

This is what my castle building skill consists of.

This is what I could make if I had those buckets.

{5} Stand Up Paddleboards: These were everywhere. Old folks are doing it. Young folks are doing it. Where I was, the ocean was calm enough that you could do it right off the beach. And I can see why. It's a fun, relaxing way to get exercise and as a bonus, you can see into the water really well when you are 5 feet above it, rather than being in a kayak right at the water level.

So get out ye old swimsuits and get ye to Target to buy the new stuff before heading out to the beach this year, lest ye be behind the times.

What do you think about bandeau tops? How are your sandcastle making skills? What is your favorite on the beach sport to play?

  1. I had a bandeau top last year and I have really small A's so it just didnt work for me. I looked like a little kid! I ended up just giving it to my sister. They look good on people with medium sized tops best I think, not too big not too small! (too big and the top looks like its are just barely hanging on for dear life!)

  2. I could never wear a bandeau top. I nursed 2 kids, enough said. So glad you were able to enjoy some beach time:)

  3. The bandeau top looks awful on me. I tried one on and wondered how people actually wear those things. I remember the shaped sandcastle molds from being a kid, though I can't say I really ever used them, drippy castles were my favorite to make!

  4. Yeah the bandeau top and I do not get along!!! There really is only a small set of women (and certainly not men) who can pull them off! At our small neighborhood beach we don't get many trends...just moms and kids...but they do bring the annoying whistle football! Ahhh I can't wait for beach weather!!

  5. I actually bought a bandeau top from Vic Secret that may appear on the blog this Fri. It's neon green and I loved it for Mexico.

  7. Haaa are they really smarter than we thought? :-) I don't think I'll be joining in the new swimwear fashions I need more coverage. Paddle boarding still want to try it!

  8. I like the bandeau top, but I need to have an underwire. I have a larger cup size, but a smaller wait so when it doesn't have an underwire the thing wants to lift up because it's too large around. the underwire helps keep it in place and give some lift! Unfortunately, I haven't found this yet. :( At least not one without massive padding!!! Grrr.

  9. A magazine once recommended the badeau tops for my body type. Sadly, I look like a drag queen in anything strapless. I'll stick with my halter tops.

  10. I love your trend report! I do the mismatched thing but there will be no bandeau here. We set sail Friday and I couldn't be more excited!

  11. Bandeau top? I think it's cute but not sure I would wear it. And I do not love busy beaches... secluded, yes please!

  12. I hate bandeau tops. But I think they are especially awful on heavy busted girls... It offers no support. Yikes. I don't like that look - or any sort of strapless looks actually! And the non matching suit thing? Not a fan!

And you are right - sand toys have gotten SO much better since we were kids!

  13. A Bandeau top would end up around my waist, i have no boobs to hold it up, I agree with you they look best on medium chests, mine is xtra small however. I haven't been to a beach in... almost 7 years. I burn easy and I hate swimming suits, plus I live inland. :) i did enjoy your post though.

  14. I didn't like bandeau tops when my boobs were perky. I'm certainly not going to wear one after two kids and six years of nursing LOL.

  15. I can certainly understand the appeal of sand castle buckets, but the problem is that they take away imagination. No, my sand castles weren't awesome when I was a kid, but they were mine. Not some pre-fabricated design poured into a plastic mold to look like every other castle on the beach.

Sorry, that sounded much more ranty than I meant it to.

But I really do want to try those paddleboard things. That looks like fun!
